Gewerbeschule Basel, 1931 an der Kunstgewerbeschule von Albert Reimann in Berlin, ab 1932 in Paris, zunächst im Couture-Salon Philippe und Gaston, dann bei der Modeschöpferin Elsa Schiaparelli. Aufenthalt in Wien und Budapest, 1936 Rückkehr nach Basel. Mit finanzieller Unterstützung seiner Eltern eröffnete S. 1937 in deren Haus am Rheinsprung einen Couturesalon, 1949-86 führte er im Erdgeschoss eine Boutique, die erste ihrer Art in Basel. Bis zu seinem Tod veranstaltete S. jährlich zwei Modeschauen, die sich zu einem gesellschaftl. Höhepunkt in Basel entwickelten. Er schuf für seine Kundinnen aus der Deutschschweiz und dem angrenzenden Ausland verwegene, elegante und ausgefallene Kleider.
