Extensive travels in the Rio, Sao Paulo, Vila Rica (Ouro Preto) areas with excellent demographic descriptions of urban, rural, and native populations. According to Borba: "This is a partial translation of the description of the travels" originally published 1823 as Reise in Brasilien auf Befehl Sr. Majestet Maximilian Joseph 1. . . which was in three volumes without plates (in German). According to Borba: an atlas with 42 plates (some colored) and 11 maps (some folding) was published [n.d.] which consists of views taken from sketches by von Martius himself.
