The famous actress and Shaw, the famous playwright, maintained a correspondence from 1892 to 1920. The letters, gathered after Ms. Terry's death, follow a lengthy Preface by Shaw and a short Introductory Note by the editor, Christopher St. John. Shaw concludes the Preface with the following comment: "Let those who may complain that it was all on paper remember that only on paper has humanity yet achieved glory, beauty, truth, knowledge, virtue, and abiding love."
