Add to basketMagazine. Facsimile reprint. Facsimile reprint from 1945 of a dime novel (as by ''Noname'') first published in the 1890s, no. 344 of The Boys' Star Library. Charles Bragin, an avid collector of dime novels, together with Ralph F. Cummings, used his vast personal collection to issue a series of reprints in the mid-1940s. This enterprise became known as the Dime Novel Club and was based in Brooklyn, New York. For a small fee, collectors around the country would receive the reprints through the mail. Their planigraphic printing technique on pulp paper resulted in a product that closely resembled the original. Bragin was concerned that his copies would be mistaken for rare antique novels and took some steps to prevent this. Several reprints are smaller or larger than the originals. Three-color covers were reproduced in a two-color separation. Novels containing two stories were abridged to include only the principal yarn. Advertisements for Dime Novel Club reprints might replace an original Beadle or Tousey advertising page. Most carry a 'Dime Novel Club Reprint stamp in several places, or a 'Charles Bragin' stamp. Unfortunately, now that the pulp paper reprints are older than some of the originals from which Bragin worked (in 1945, a 1905 novel was only forty years old) they have browned to the point that they are difficult to distinguish from their prototypes at first glance. Pages browning, else a fine copy.

An attractive example of one of the best-known works of South African literature. Dorothy Comingore (1913-1971) was the breakout star of Citizen Kane, the critically acclaimed film by Orson Welles. As her fame grew, so did the FBI's attention to her suspected communist activities. In 1952 she declined to answer questions when called in front of the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HCUA), resulting in her being blacklisted from Hollywood. She never worked in Hollywood again and struggled with alcoholism in her later years. Signed.
