Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 10-inch, 33-1/3 rpm, vinyl LP record, Capitol H-211, near-mint vinyl in a near-mint cardboard jacket. Song stylist Kay Starr's first LP features "Steady Daddy" and "You've Got to See Mama Ev'ry Night (Or You Can't See Mama At All)."…Starr, a child prodigy of Iroquois descent (she was born on the reservation in Dougherty, Oklahoma), had her first real hit when she convinced Roy Acuff to write her some lyrics to the fiddle tune "Bonaparte's Retreat." As her background was in Western Swing, and as even Elvis Presley praised her jazz-oriented style in early interviews, she would have seemed a natural to move into rock 'n roll, but probably she'd come along just a decade too soon. (On July 5, 1954, the day rock 'n roll was born, clean-cut Kay Star was 32.) After this promising opening entry, Capitol offered her only "pop" material which had already been rejected by their top artists including Peggy Lee and Ella Mae Morse, and Kay Starr ended up touring with Pat Boone. Catalogs $70; here reduced from $37.
