Un inquietante invito, protetto da una busta sinistramente nera, raggiunge una comitiva di ex compagni di liceo, chiamandoli a ritrovarsi dopo molto tempo. Così i capitoli si sfogliano come album che raccontano dei personaggi coinvolti, intrecciandone le vite affamate di futuro ma allo stesso tempo irrimediabilmente legate a un evento del passato che ha segnato le loro esistenze. In un continuo andirivieni tra la storia in presa diretta e i flashback che puntellano il racconto, l'autore ci chiama a ricostruire i pezzi di un puzzle dai contorni sempre più angoscianti. Ci si addentra sempre più nelle storie dei protagonisti, vedendo con i loro occhi e camminando sulle loro gambe, adeguando il ritmo del proprio cuore ai battiti di tensione degli attori che di volta in volta calcano la scena del racconto. Rumori oscuri, sinistre coincidenze metteranno in moto la mente di chi legge, alla ricerca del deus ex machina dell'incubo che coinvolge tutti. Mosca Cieca diventa un folle gioco cui siamo chiamati a partecipare, un brancolare nel buio, alla ricerca della soluzione finale che non arriva se non dopo l'ennesimo colpo di scena, abilmente architettato dalla penna dell'autore. Non sarebbe giusto andare oltre. Stefano Maffei ci dona un'occasione per abbandonare il nostro corpo e far muovere il nostro spirito attraverso le righe di un thriller che lascia senza fiato, dalla prima all'ultima ambitissima riga. Credo, viceversa, che questa possa essere un'occasione per alcuni suoi amici, di più antica o di più recente data, e per alcuni tra i suoi ultimi allievi, per continuare a intrattenere Con Giancarlo Mazzacurati (come, appunto, si legge sull'invito), un colloquio ancóra vivo e produttivo, che, nel tracciare insieme a lui una specie di consuntivo della sua vita, tocchi anche il destino di tutta una generazione di intellettuali, o meglio, di un settore particolare di essa, quello che, a partire dagli anni Cinquanta, si è trovato ad operare fattivamente in questa città, nonostante degrado cronico della sua vita politica, civile e culturale. Almeno fino a quando la tenacia del temperamento, le energie, la sopraffazione delle delusioni, lo hanno consentito, trattenendo l'uno o l'altro dalla tentazione della fuga o dell'abbandono, se non addirittura, in casi estremi, dal suicidio. Le discussioni vivaci che sta suscitando in questi giorni il romanzo-cronaca di Ermanno Rea, Mistero napoletano, ruotano intorno a questa tematica. Ermanno Rea colloca nel clima asfittico, sia culturale che politico, della Napoli degli anni Cinquanta il suicidio di Renato Caccioppoli e quello di Francesca Spada, compagna di partito e di vita di Renzo La Piccirella. Andrebbero almeno ricordati anche il suicidio di Luigi Incoronato e l'esodo corposo di tanti altri intellettuali, noti o sconosciuti che fossero. To link the geomagnetic observations with the core flows is an incredibly difficult feat that challenges our technological capabilities and scientific understanding of the structure and dynamics of the Earth's interior. Here I study the possibility of using the inerannual to decadal geomagnetic oscillations to obtain a dynamical picture of the fluid flow and magnetic fields in the Earth's outer core. This is possible thanks to the quasi-geostrophic approximation, originating from the overwhelming importance of Earth's rotation on the core dynamics. 272 pp. Englisch.
