Half title inscribed "au redoubtable Docteur David Pelet l'homme de Demain / J'offre [illegible] / [signed] Rodophe Salis." Board edges rubbed, leaf edges and margins toned. Salis' second volume of ribald tales in antiquated French, followup to "L'hiver." Humorist and artist Rodolphe Salis (1851-1897) was the creator of the Montmartre cabaret du Chat Noir and publisher of its weekly newspaper. He bestowed the satirical-honorary title "Docteur" on his friend David Louis Pelet, administrator and head of publicity at le Chat Noir. "Le Docteur" created and directed L'Almanach de Paris et d'ailleurs which became L'Almanach du Dr Pelet. Illustrations by Loÿs, Henri Rivière, Henri Pille, Henry Somm, Robida, Fernand Fau, Steinlen, Sabattier, St-Maurice, George Auriol, Roedel, Vincent (illustrator). Signed.
