Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR: "W. LOUIS F. POST / INCLUDING GREETINGS FROM / STELLA MILES FRANKLIN" RED CLOTH COVERED BOARDS WITH BLACK TITLES TO THE SPINE. BOOK HAS MODEST RUB/WEAR AT THE TURNED CORNERS AND THE SLIGHTLY DARKENED SPINE'S EDGES, AND COVERS ARE MODERATELY MARKED AND FADED. A VE…RY NICE CLEAN COPY. Louis F Post was an advocate of Henry George's "SINGLE TAX" philosophy and the founder, with his wife Anna, of a journal of liberal opinion, called "Public". He was appointed in 1913 assitant secretary of Labor, and continued in office through President Wilson's 2 terms. He ran up against the anti-communists during the "red scare" because he sought to temper the deportation of radical aliens with humanity and liberalism. This resluted in being subjected to an impeachment attempt which he brilliantly defended by shaming his inquisitors. Stella had know the couple from her Chicago days and apparently kept in touch with Anna for the rest of her life. Since Louis died in 1928, I understand the inscription to be to Anna and the odd "W" possibility indicating widow. Signed by Author(s).

Sydney : The Bulletin, 1937. Third Australian edition. Octavo (215 x 140 mm), original red cloth with black lettering to spine (fine and bright - no rubbing or sun-fading); front free-endpaper with early ownership stamp and signature crossed out, pp. 500, [2 press reviews]; spotting to edges, moderate foxing to first and last fe…w leaves, else clean throughout; a very good copy, without the publisher's dust jacket. All that swagger is based on the experience of Franklin's own forebears who emigrated from Ireland and settled in the Monaro district of New South Wales in the mid-nineteenth century. The novel was awarded the S. H. Prior Memorial Prize in 1936.

Contact seller5-star sellerVintage borderless reference photograph of director and actor Dennis Hopper with cameraman László Kovács during filming on location for the 1971 film. Annotations in manuscript ink on the verso. From the archive of film historian and author Joel Finler. A stunt coordinator filming on location in a small Peruvian village believes… he has found paradise, but soon discovers a strange and violent cargo cult which has formed among the locals. In spite of his ongoing battle with substance abuse, director Dennis Hopper was granted full creative control over the film after his unexpected success with "Easy Rider" in 1969. The film's massive failure, which became the stuff of legend, essentially ended Hopper's directorial career in Hollywood for the better part of the ensuing decade, until "Out of the Blue" in 1980. Set and shot on location in Peru. 7 x 9.5 inches. Near Fine. Pitts 2199.
