Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Original cloth bindings with embossed designs on front. Fairly tight, strong hinges. Spines sunned but lettering very legible. Some foxing but interiors mostly clean and unmarked. Frontispiece loose in volume 1 but still attached. Book plates on front pastedowns of each volume. The 2 folding plates in volume 2 are present. Rare.

Full Leather. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. this copy from the library of mitchell king, esq an important member of the charleston s. c. bar prior to the civil war. with his signature on the title page of both volume 1 and 2 with the date of 16 febry 1854.

Half-Leather. Condition: Good. Heavily rubbed leather spine and corners, the former with label lettered in gilt; rubbed marbled boards. Internally name and date on reverse of front free endpaper; a lightly spotted blank followed by frontis and (slightly soiled) title page to vol 1 with name and address at top; pp, vi, 138. Frontis of vol 2 follows and title page with same name; pp vi, 131, (3). Pagination at base of pages suggests that vol 1 should preceed vol 2.

Drab boards with paper label to spine very marked and rubbed to edges. Spine label soiled. Name to blank front ep. Generally very clean and bright throughout with just the very occasional spot. Hand coloured frontis showing Pfaltz Castle on the Rhine. Slight strain at rear end paper but binding is tight and square with secure boards. Contents are very good but due to staining of boards will overall say fair+. A scarce example of Stephens account. EU buyers please be aware that import duty may be payable on delivery.
