Half-Leather. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. Charles J. Peterson et al., publishers. Philadelphia: 1843-1845. Half leather with marbled boards. A bound volume of different 'Lady's' magazines, containing the bound volume of July through December 1843 of the Ladie's National Magazine, as well as various single issues of Godey's Lady's Book (March 1844 and February 1845) and Graham's Magazine (January and November of 1844). These are not bound consecutively but appear after volume IV of the Ladies' National Magazine. With various plates, including several color fashion plates included with the Ladies' Magazine and Godey's Book. NO original wraps or ads included with any issue. Two plates MISSING from the Ladies' National Magazine, although all fashion plates are present, some misbound. 3 fashion plates not colored although indicated that they should be in the contents. Of note in the various volumes is 'The Thousand-and-Second Tale of Scheherazade,' by Edgar Allan Poe (Godey's Lady's Book, February 1845); "The Lady's Yes" by Elizabeth B. Barrett (Browning) [Graham's Magazine January 1844]; 'Terpsichore' by Oliver Wendell Holmes in the same issue; and a poem by Henry William Herbert. The November 1844 issue of Graham's contains a brief article on an Elkhorn Pyramid on the Upper Missouri, with a plate included. With fashion plates included for the various Godey's Lady's Books. POOR/FAIR condition. Leather backstrip effectively DETACHED, with the lower 3 inches MISSING. Covers very weakly attached. The first few leaves of the book tenuously hanging on by a thread. Two leaves of illustrations DETACHED and laid in at the middle of the book. Moderate scuffing and general fading to the boards, with some soiling. Extremities scuffed and worn. Scattered foxing, soiling and staining throughout the interior, moderate to heavy in a few places. Text block shaken but intact, except for the above noted sections.
