Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A prominent representative of German Impressionism, Sterl was a member of the Goppeln artists' colony and was associated with the "Willingshäuser Malerkolonie" in Schwalm. He applied himself to landscape painting and genre scenes and was inspired by themes of farmers' work as well as by quarriers and potters. - Small ink spot near left margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
