Todos ellos realizaron largos periodos de formación en centros de alto nivel en Europa y en EE.UU., logrando la experiencia y la actitud de mente abierta, que les permitió establecer relaciones sólidas y duraderas en el contexto de la comunidad científica internacional, como lo demuestran también por una gran cantidad de artículos científicos publicados en las revistas destacadas de Cirugía General y Vascular. Antonio Sterpetti concibió la idea y el proyecto del libro; Antonino Cavallaro, mi primer y principal discípulo, le importaban la estructura y los detalles, ofreciendo, junto con Antonio Sterpetti, la redacción de varios capítulos y la planificación de la iconografía. Ambos compartieron con Luca di Marzo la responsabilidad de describir algunos aspectos particulares de la cirugía arterial. Fabrizio Barberini dio una contribución fundamental, el cuidado de los capítulos y las ilustraciones de la anatomía quirúrgica. El trabajo de Bernard Luraschi, tanto de ilustraciones originales, así como el trabajo de computación sobre las imágenes anatómicas e intraoperatorias, alcanza la cima, acoplando la exactitud y la eficacia con pulidez y me atrevo a decir, belleza. Leer el libro es fácil y agradable. Creo firmemente que cualquier cirujano joven, dedicándose a la cirugía de las arterias, encontrará este Atlas como una guía sencilla y agradable durante el entrenamiento que progresivamente va a hacer de él/ella un cirujano vascular.
