When war was declared in 1939 Ken Eather was just the third soldier to enlist into the AIF in New South Wales. He formed the 2/1st Battalion of the AIF, and went on to lead it with distinction in the AIF's first major battle of World War2. Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Size 275mmX210mm. Over 57,000 Australian and New Zealand servicemen served in Vietnam, yet the story of their air war has rarely been told. TargetCharlie is about that air war, the people in it and their achievements, challenges and disappointments in an unforgiving and hostile land. A thoroughly readable text is supported by a wide range of maps, statistical data and tables not previously published in a single book. Target Charlie is not only an excellent ready reference work on Australia's air war in Vietnam but also a must read account of a period in Australian history that should not be forgotten.

"Sales/posting to the USA suspended". Hard cover laminated pictorial boards 190pp b&w photos. Very good+ 6 Squadron is still active (and the author served with it for 7 years): it formed during the Great War as part of the Australian Flying Corp and served as a training squadron for the RFC. Eather focusses this history on 6 Squadron WWII service, and 6 of the 12 chapters covers WWII operations from Horn Island and Port Moresby, Milne Bay, Goodenough Island and Dobodura. In particular, the Squadron saw much action in the Battle for Milne Bay and the subjugation of Rabaul. One chapter is devoted to the Beaufort Bomber. Eather also devotes separate chapters to 6 Squadron's post war aircraft: the Lincoln, the Canberra bomber, the Phanton and the F111. Lots of photos. Appendices include WWII roll of honour and WWII awards, as well as aircraft technical details.
