Drei Geschichtennach biblischen Vorlagen werden hier erzählt. Ernste Geschehnisse erfahren ihre hintergründigen, verblüffend heiteren, phantasievollen Deutungen und Beförderungen über Jahrhunderte hinweg, leicht und prachtvoll farbig fabuliert. Es erhebt sich der Schwache über den Starken: Judith über Holofernes, beredt vorgetragen nach Art barock-sarmatischer Pilgerliteratur; das Jesuskind über die weisen Könige; der Gekreuzigte über Pilatus. Triumphale Siege können freilich nicht gemeldet werden. Zur Titelgeschichte: Von seiner Wallfahrt nach Italien mit dem ihm anvertrauten, leider ziemlich mißratenen Wojewosensohn plaudert Hochwohlgeboren. Sie tun der Buße und anderer guter Werke so viel, daß das fromme Konto zur Habenseite ausschlägt, was einen Abstecher nach Venedig angeraten sein läßt. Man hofft, das Gleichgewicht mit der Sollseiten in jugendlichen Überschwang wiederherstellen zu können. Jedoch welcher Schlachtschitz, besonders wenn er aus Chruszny und noch dazu vom edelsten Geblüt ist, findet schon Gefallen an dieser verkommenen Stadt, wo den beiden Reisenden mancherlei anderer Unbill auch noch "Judiths Triumph" zuteil wird - ein Ruhm erworben aud Kosten armer Waisenkinder, die man nicht einfach (wie Gott sei Dank in Polen Brauch) und Gotteslohn ernährt, sondern zum Singen in Chören zwingt!
