Lob (Blacker) was a British military officer, aviator and explorer, the book is a fictionalised account of, then, current events and focus primarily on military operations and travel across Persia, Central Asia, Afghanistan, Kashmir, and Sinkiang. It heavily reflects the context of the First World War and subsequent interwar campaigns and in particular the newly created Soviet Union. Baker notes in the preface 'that nearly all stories are true or based on actual episodes. Includes a map as an endpaper and two further b/w photographs. x, 308pp. Original card wraps, this is an advance printing in card, produced prior to the better known blue cloth hard boards issued as the 'First Edition'. General shelf-wear to wraps. Title and author hand-written to spine. Sunning to and alongside the spine. Text-block remains tight, though it is bulging with use and age. Pages are in good condition, if a little toned with occasional foxing. Page edges have dust staining.…
