The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. There is some beginning toning to the innner spine joints where the glue has started to discolor and show through. The dust jacket has several edge tears, nicks and creases. In 1959, Stout received the Mystery Writers of America's Grand Master Award. The Nero Wolfe corpus was nominated Best Mystery Series of the Century at Bouchercon XXXI, the world's largest mystery convention, and Rex Stout was nominated Best Mystery Writer of the Century. Contains the first book publication of The Bitter End: A Nero Wolfe Novel, with an informal interview with Rex Stout, Why Nero Wolfe Likes Orchids, and a Rex Stout mystery checklist, 163 pages. 1776 Copies were published, with 276 bound. 26 were lettered, and 250 numbered. The remaining 1500 copies were bound in paper and numbered, this copy being number 657. Very lightly rubbed at the edges, slightly tanned, in a mylar cover.

Ink marking on rear pastedown, crease on the front fly, a couple small soil marks on rear board, very good in a very good dust jacket with chips and tears (affecting a bit of text at the crown), and small soil marks on the rear panel. Voting records from members of Congress and their speeches which editor Rex Stout argues were pro-Nazi propaganda. Sullivan states in the introduction that this collection is "a sorry record of stupidity in high places.".
