Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Born in Warsaw in 1909, Ignace Strasfogel was the youngest student ever admitted to the Berlin Hochschule (conservatory), a true wunderkind. A teenaged pupil in Franz Schreker's famed composition class, his second piano sonata won the Mendelssohn Prize in 1926. He accompanied Joseph Szigeti… on a six-month world tour in 1927, made recordings with Carl Flesch, wrote stage music for Max Reinhardt productions, and served as Leo Blech's assistant at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. Summarily dismissed from the opera in 1933, Strasfogel fled to America and reestablished himself. He was appointed official pianist of the New York Philharmonic by Arturo Toscanini and eventually came to prominence as a coach and conductor at the Metropolitan Opera. Late in his life, Strasfogel started composing again. Young German musicians took note and began championing his music, which soon attracted an admiring public. The warmth and sympathy with which he and his music was received in Germany gradually led him to make peace with the country that had ripped his life apart.

Mit seiner Zweiten Klaviersonate gewann er 1926 den M…endelssohn-Staatspreis für Komposition. Er war Begleiter der Geiger Joseph Szigeti und Carl Flesch sowie des Sängers Lauritz Melchior, schrieb Bühnenmusiken für Max Reinhardt und assistierte dem Dirigenten Leo Blech an der Staatsoper Unter den Linden. 1933 emigrierte Strasfogel in die Vereinigten Staaten und ließ sich in New York nieder, wo er unter Arturo Toscanini Pianist der New Yorker Philharmoniker wurde. Später wirkte Strasfogel als Korrepetitor und Kapellmeister an der Metropolitan Opera. Erst in seinen letzten Lebensjahren begann Strasfogel wieder zu komponieren. Junge deutsche Musiker wurden auf ihn aufmerksam und begannen, seine Musik aufzuführen, die bald ein bewunderndes Publikum gewann. Sein Archiv wird seit 1998 von der Akademie der Künste in Berlin betreut.Gabriel Riesser war ein Liberaler seiner Zeit, der sich für demokratische Verhältnisse und die damit verbundenen Rechte und Pflichten einsetzte.

The one-act opera "The Emperor of Atlantis or The Disobedience of Death" (Der Kaiser von Atlantis oder Die Tod-Verweigerung) was composed by Viktor Ullmann and Peter Kien while interned at the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1943. It was not allowed to be performed and the script was not finished until the 1970s. The poet Aaron Kramer prepared an English translation which the San Francisco Spring Opera Theater first performed in April 1977 and which had its New York premiere at the New Opera Theatre of the Brooklyn Academy of Music on May 19, 1977. The world premiere of Dominic Argento's "A Water Bird Talk" also took place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music that same evening.The opera director and producer Ian Strasfogel (born 1940) was the author of several plays, screenplays and librettos and of a novel titled "Operaland". Strasfogel directed over 100 productions throughout Europe and North America and frequently collaborated with Gyorgy Ligeti, Luciano Berio, Bruno Maderna, Hans Werner Henze and Otto Piene.Jean Dalrymple (1902-1998) was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville, appearing with James Cagney and Cary Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing, the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski, Mary Martin, Jose Iturbi, Andre Kostalanetz, Nathan Milstein, and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943, serving as a board member, producer, and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951, Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder, commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. She was a friend to Presidents and entertainment personalities throughout the world.
