This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Der Autor Friedrich Straumer (1840 -1900) war Pädagoge, Heimatschriftsteller und einer der führenden Konservativen im Königreich Sachsen. 1875 gehörte er zu den Mitbegründern des Konservativen Landesvereins und engagierte sich in diesem als Vorstandsmitglied. 1879 bis 1881 war er Stadtverordneter in Chemnitz. Im Verlauf des 19. Jahrhunderts entwickelte sich Chemnitz zu einer der bedeutendsten Industriestädte Deutschlands, vor allem zu einem Zentrum des deutschen Maschinenbaus. Seit 1835 wurden Dampfmaschinen und seit 1844 Lokomotiven in Chemnitz gebaut. Durch den Einsatz von Dampfkraft in Chemnitz ab 1822 veränderte sich das Aussehen der Stadt. Die Vielzahl der Schornsteine der Fabriken und Gießereien und die damit verbundene Rauch- und Schmutzentwicklung verliehen Chemnitz den Beinamen 'Sächsisches Manchester'. In der industriell bestimmten Stadt traten die sozialen Gegensätze zutage. Der Anteil der Lohnarbeiter belief sich Mitte des 19. Die ersten Besitzer der Stal(e)burc (erstmalige urkundliche Erwähnung 1244 wohl Fälschung, sicher 1267 Stal-burch) und der dazu gehörigen Herrschaft Stollberg waren die Erkenbertinger, die sich später als Burggrafen von Starkenberg bezeichneten. Die Burg und Stadt Stollberg gingen im Jahr 1459 als böhmisches Lehen an Sachsen über. Im Jahre 1473 gelangten sie an das Geschlecht derer von Schönberg und 1564 an die Wettiner Herrschaft. Aus der Herrschaft Stollberg wurde nun das kurfürstlich-sächsische Amt Stollberg. Die Staleburc wurde zu einem kurfürstlichen Jagdschloss umgebaut, welches jedoch durch einen Brand im Jahr 1602 und wiederholt im Dreißigjährigen Krieg (1618 bis 1648) zerstört wurde. In der Nähe der einstigen Furt durch den Fluss Gablenz kreuzten sich zwei wichtige Handelsstraßen. Der Böhmische Steig führte von Altenburg nach Prag. Die Chemnitzer Straße verlief zwischen der gleichnamigen Stadt und Dresden. So kamen häufig Handels- und Fuhrleute in die Stadt, die man wegen ihrer zweirädrigen Karren, mit denen sie vor allem Salz und Erze transportierten, als 'Kärrner' bezeichnete.
