Hardcover. Condition: Near fine condition. First edition. Quarto. xii, 82 plates, [16]pp. Original yellow cloth with modern design and typography in three colors on cover, black lettering on spine, publisher's device on back cover. Green endpapers. Publisher's device on title page. An impressive collection of sepia-toned photographs of Heinrich Straumer architecture, mostly exterior and some interior views, with additional architectural drawings and plans. Born in Chemnitz in 1876 Straumer was trained as a mason, studied architecture at the Royal Baugewerkschule at Chemnitz and in Dresden with Paul Wallot. In 1903 he moved to Berlin where the major part of his architectural work was realized. He collaborated with the architects Martin Schreiber and Hans Hermann, designed residential dwellings for the upper middle class, mostly in Berlin Frohnau and Dahlem, and some business and retail buildings, including some in Chemnitz. Straumer is considered a moderate modern architect and known as a protagonist of the English country house style. One of his best known projects was the Berlin Radio Tower. Straumer was a member of the German Werkbund and he was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor by the Technische Hochschule Dresden in 1928. Text in German. Minor wear to binding and lightly starting at plate 56/57.
