Wraps. 33 pages. Illustrations. Diagrams. Glossary of Airplane Terms; Title on front cover: Pilot Handbook: The Science and Technology of Airplanes. This combination book and model kit taps into kids' enduring interest in airplanes by bringing them into the hangar for a tour of how planes work, and then into the planes themselve…s for a pilot's eye view of what it's like to soar. Clear explanations of concepts like the law of motion are here, along with discussions of flying pioneers. But how about actually creating a plane? This book comes with all the parts needed for assembling actual flying airplanes--even a battery-powered propeller winder! Kids learn to build a jumbo jet, a sleek and sporty private aircraft, a fighter jet, and a sturdy bush plane. Good. No dust jacket as issued.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. A very clean copy. Notwithstanding the boom in inner-city apartment blocks, most New Zealanders still live in timber or masonry detached houses on sections of land that have a frontage to a street and a backyard. This basic model has traditionally allowed relatively simple alterations and additio…ns to suit any changes in lifestyle. However, the idea of heritage has grown over the years - that old house in disrepair is now appreciated and valued by our society. Home owners considering altering or upgrading their houses now try to retain heritage value while still allowing modern standards of living. This book looks at the restoration of the New Zealand house of all periods up to and including the 1960s. It is divided into three broad sections: the first section looks at the development of the different period styles, the principles of conservation and deals with investigating what type of property you have and what state it is in; the second section deals with structure and exterior elements of houses and their repair; the third section deals with interior elements. There is also a glossary, reference list and a full index. Stuart Arden is a conservation architect who has held positions with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, Wellington Institute of Technology and UNESCO. He is currently working for the National Trust in England. Ian Bowman is an historian, architect and is the first New Zealander to qualify as a heritage building conservator with a Masters degree in building conservation from York University. He has 20 years experience in the UK, Australia and his own practice with offices in Wellington and Nelson.
