Broadsheet folio (711mm x 558mm) Text sheets and 50 color offset lithographed plates laid in loose to two cloth portfolios (as issued). Presented in a cloth clam-shell box with a paper label. Corners bumped, cover soiled. Twin brothers, Scott (1942-2011) and Stuart (1942-2006) Gentling, were lifelong artistic collaborators and contributors to the study of Texas bird life. With this encyclopedic survey, they sought to emulate naturalist/artists like John J. Audubon. They shared an interest in nature and history in their representational art. The Gentling brothers' original paintings for this work are in the collection of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth,Texas. John Graves' accompanying essay is entitled "Recollections of a Texas Bird Glimpser." Scott Gentling painted George W. Bush's portrait c. 2000 for the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C. From the collection of William S. Reese (1955-2018), who was one of the great Americana booksellers. His firm continues to trade in New Haven. After his death, Christie's New York sold his private collection (24,25 May 2022; the present item was lot 143).

36 3/4 x 25 3/4 inches. Condition: Very good. This is an double elephant folio print of Gentling Cattle Egret oil painting. It was printed as part of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and history exhibit of the Gentling work and colossal printed book of ornithological prints of their oils. A very nice copy of the poster with a mild crease in the lower left.
