Half-Leather. Condition: Very Good. Second Edition. Contemporary half-leather binding. Translated from French by D.M. Aird. The Novel Newspaper edition from 1845. Previously published in the UK by Chapman & Hall in 1844. The title panel on the panel has bright gilt lettering but gilt decorations on the spine are partially worn away. The spine has edge wear and there is light rubbing to the corners, edges and the surface of the marbled boards. Marbled page edges and endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Quite heavy spotting to the pages next to the endpapers and lighter spotting to the title page and the final page of the text. Previous owner's name in ink to the title page. There is some staining to a few of the pages but they are otherwise generally unmarked.…

A cloth bound hardback in fair condition-top & bottom of the spines cloth a little chipped. The cloth of the book is stained, as are some of the pages. The back 'end-paper' has a torn piece missing from it. (554 pages & 4 pages of introduction). There is no date of publication, but possibly an early edition in this format.
