The study thus conceived was carried out among the urban school going children of Puducherry belonging to both government and private schools. The sample size was 571 belonging to the age group of 12-15 years comprising of both boys and girls. Data was collected through self administered questionnaire. It was a eight month study from January 2012 to August 2012. Chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U test were done using SPSS 11.5. It was found that children are more interested in consuming the foods shown by the celebrities on televisions. The advertisements related to food, health drink and carbonated beverages had a remarkable impact on the consumption behaviour. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This study aimed at studying the outcome of dietary habits on body composition and blood profile of adolescent girls in Puducherry. It involved multiple methodological approaches like survey, nutritional assessment, body composition analysis and biochemical analysis. Sample size was 1170 adolescent girls between 19-21 years. A self administered questionnaire was used for eliciting details on their life style practices. Prescribed standard tools were used for assessing the body composition. The result showed that most of them had the average fat percentage; metabolic age and resting metabolism were lower than the standard cut off points. Every two out of five individuals were found to be undernourished. About 5 percent of the respondents exhibited abnormal body composition parameters such as metabolic age, visceral fat, resting metabolism and fat percentage. Most of the anaemic individuals were vegetarians (65%) whereas most of the ova-vegetarians (42%) presented with normal haemoglobin content. The overall results of the study emphasizes the fact that the good quality diet accompanied with physical exercise is essential for eradicating malnutrition from the community. 96 pp. Englisch. …

Enough care was taken to pick the informers. Accordingly fifty respondents were chosen from all the four regions. Observation and informal interviews were the main source of data collection. Secondary sources were used to supplement the first hand information. Most of them are illiterates. Transition from tradition to modernity was visibly seen. However their costume and life cycle rituals had the tinge of their tradition. Clinical signs of malnutrition was observed with respect to hair, skin, nails, among the respondents. Though they are aware of the richness of their healing tradition they follow allopathy for their illness. The reason behind this was non availability of fauna and flora that are required for healing.
