Ensemble 12 lettres manuscrites in-8 de une ou plusieurs pages. Aimé Sureau (1809-1872) incarne une figure emblématique des luttes politiques et ouvrières de la première moitié du XIXe siècle. Condamné sous la Monarchie de Juillet à trois ans de prison pour délit politique, il s'inscrit parmi les acteurs radicaux qui, avant et après la Révolution de Février 1848, ont milité pour une plus grande intégration des classes populaires dans les structures institutionnelles, notamment au sein de la Garde nationale.Le contexte des événements d?avril 1848. Le 26 avril 1848, sur la place publique de Saint-Ouen, Aimé Sureau prend la parole pour réclamer l?incorporation et l?armement des ouvriers dans la Garde nationale. Le lendemain, il est accusé d'avoir sonné le ralliement et promis des armes aux insurgés. Lui-même et son ami Durand-Neveu affirment qu?il tenta, au contraire, de désamorcer la confrontation. Cependant, les soupçons qui pèsent sur lui conduisent à sa fuite dès le soir du 28 avril.Condamnation et exil. La répression qui suit les événements de 1848 se montre implacable envers Aimé Sureau. Le 7 décembre 1848, la Cour d?assises de Caen le condamne aux travaux forcés à perpétuité. Cette sentence semble davantage motivée par son passé politique sous la Monarchie de Juillet et son rôle de président du club de Saint-André après la Révolution de Février que par son implication réelle dans les événements d?avril. Le 17 avril 1849, cette condamnation est commuée en une déportation en Algérie, marquant une étape supplémentaire dans la répression des militants révolutionnaires.Un témoignage épistolaire exceptionnel. Les archives liées à Aimé Sureau offrent un éclairage rare sur son engagement et sa trajectoire personnelle. Parmi les documents conservés figurent :Trois lettres autographes datées de Bicêtre (6 septembre et 27 octobre 1848) et d?Alençon (13 mars 1850).Trois lettres de Nougaret (datées des 19 septembre, 14 septembre, et 15 septembre 1870), toutes adressées à un certain Dalleine, tailleur.Un billet signé conjointement par Dalleine et Sureau.Une copie manuscrite de coupures de presse.Une lettre de son frère, Félix Sureau, adressée à son avocat.Deux billets d?Henry Cellier destinés à Sureau, ainsi qu?un billet anonyme débutant par ses mots « si tu as besoin de témoins?».
