Sumerkin's be…st-known project is The Collected Poems of Marina Tsvetaeva in Five Volumes (1980-1990) - the most authoritative academic compilation of Tsvetaeva's poetry to this day. He also edited and published Tsvetaeva's Selected Prose in Two Volumes, three volumes of Vladimir Vysotsky's lyrics, and four books by Nina Berberova. Sumerkin was the editor of Joseph Brodsky's last collection of poems Peizazh s navodneniem (1995) and translated Brodsky's essays and poems into Russian. He died in New York on December 14, 2006."
