Jackson Tianshin Sun "is a Taiwanese linguist working on languages of the Sino-Tibetan and Austroasiatic families. He is best known for his pioneering documentation and historical-comparative work in Tani, Rgyalrongic, and Tibetic languages. Sun is a research fellow at Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan" (Wikipedia). This work is the basis of his master's thesis at the National Taiwan Normal University, and it is his first book. He earned his Ph.D. at Berkeley and has at least two dozen papers and four other books to his credit.
