Sodann durch die Tätigkeit von Handelsunternehmen, die in die Schaffung von Kolonien mündeten, deren Verwaltungen die jeweiligen Länder prägten.Die zentrale Frage ist: Waren diese Deutschen in ihrer repräsentativen Mehrheit durch rassistische Voreingenommenheiten oder Besessenheiten geprägt Die Dezember-2007 -Ausgabe des Journal of Pacific History geht von dieser These aus. Suren versucht zu zeigen, dass die Substantiierung dieser Sicht in den betreffenden Beiträgen völlig unzureichend ist und macht am Beispiel Samoas anhand von Zitaten wahrscheinlich, dass die deutschen Kolonien im Pazifik nicht vom Rassismus geprägt waren - anders als etwa Britisch-Indien oder Britisch-Fiji. Auch der bedeutende Ethnologe Paul Hambruch wird gegen derartige Vorwürfe verteidigt. Zudem wird Hambruchs angebliche Verbundenheit mit dem Nationalsozialismus, wie sie Hans Fischer in einem Buch suggeriert hat, in Frage gestellt.…
