First Edition
Stapled Wraps. First Edition, First Printing. pp. 20. 12mo., measuring 22 cm tall. Bright orange stapled card covers bearing an image (borrowed from Mauldin, and originally printed in the Chicago Sun-Times) of a sombrero emblazoned with "Latin America" in large letters along the rim. No detectable flaws, bright, clean, and unamarked with tight, sound binding; fine. A not so subtle critique of the Organization of American States, their stance towards Fidel Castro, Cuban Communism in general. The author does not attempt to hide their critical views of "yankee imperialsm", and the "malicious" political and economic motives of the United States in Latin America, all the while imploring the Canadian government, policy-makerts, and the public to resist the temptation to join as a member state of the OAS. Scarce, with no extant copies available in commerce at time of cataloguing. Corresponds to OCLC #965154803. From the foreword: "The author of this pamphlet, Ben Swanky, is known in the labor movement for his work in the fields of education and labor journalism. He visited Cuba in January of this year. The Canadian Cuban Friendship Committee is devoted to the promotion of trade, friendship and cultural exchange between our country and Cuba. It collects needy supplies for Cuba and disseminates news and information on life in that country. It also sends books on Canada to Cuba so that Cubans may become better informed on life in our country".
