Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. Sybil Barham (illustrator). The brown illustrated boards are rubbed and stain to back top corner, with some bumping to all edges and corners. Heavily tanned page edges with mild foxing, some cracks to hinge and small marks to pages. Otherwise the binding is firm, the pages are clean with some tanning and good illustrations throughout. This book has 71 pages. All in all a nice example of this book.

The book was published in an American edition in 1918, with a different cover.Alice P Moss also published The Dream Garden, and Other stories (1904); under her married name, Alice P. Nowell Price, a book of poems, The Cardinal's Coach and other poems (1927).Sybil Barham trained at the Herkomer Art School, London, and worked as an illustrator. This is a charming example of fairy stories set in Edwardian middle-class life. Scarce. Green cloth binding; front cover has a 3-colour image framing the title; spine has floral motif; back cover has publisher's logo. Cover is rubbed on all edges, 1cm split on top of spine, ink stains on lower edges, printed designs and lettering abraded. Binding cracked inside front and back covers and slightly loose. Edges of block rubbed. Some marks to pages. Colour frontispiece missing but two colour plates present. 24 b/w images in text. inscription on flyleaf.

Stories from Browning, an intriguing work retelling Robert Browning's poems as chidlren's stories, written by Verney Cameron Turnbull. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Contains a colour frontispiece, and all eleven other colour illustrated plates by Sybil Barnham, an illustrator at the height of its Golden Age. Collated complete. Particularly known for his veiled dramatic monologues, Robert Browning captured the imaginations of many including Turnbull who embarks on retelling Browning's poems for children to enjoy. Following an overview of his life, retellings includePan and Luna, Colombe's Birthday, and My Last Duchess among many others, beautifully complimented by Barnham's illustrations. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Externally, minor fading, and rubbing to joints and edges. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Offsetting to end papers and half-title, with front free end paper missing. Internally, firmly bound, with minor wear to hinge between pp.160-161. Pages are generally bright and clean, with browning to first and final leaves. Very Good. book.
