Original lobby card for the 1959 film "The Chaplin Revue," a re-release of three of Charlie Chaplin's earlier films: "A Dog's Life" and "Shoulder Arms" (both from 1918), and his final short film, "The Pilgrim" (1923). Lobby card No. 7 in the set depicts a scene from "Shoulder Arms," where the Tramp is a boot camp private who goes on a mission in enemy territory. The 1959 re-release included a new soundtrack written by Chaplin, designed to increase appeal to modern audiences. Universally acclaimed as an actor, director, and producer, Chaplin and his iconic Tramp character especially captured the hearts of the filmgoing population, and to this day he is considered a legendary innovator in comedic cinema. By rereleasing his films together in this manner he hoped to win over a new generation of audiences to his character, and to an extent it worked. Though Chaplin would remain in Europe throughout the 1960s, his status in the public eye as a blacklisted Communist began to shift. 14 x 11 inches. An attractive piece, in Near Fine condition.

hardcover. Dust Jacket Condition: no DJ. first edition. 8vo 528pp. Association copy for Sydney Chaplin, American stage and film actor and Charlie Chaplin's son. from editor's introduction: "This book then, in one way, is a nostalgic look backward at a way of life we will never know again. It is a book about years which, I suspect, will grow increasingly dear to us in retrospect, the years between the end of World War I and the beginning of World War II, the years, I fell, that were the glad, the sad, the noble years in American history and which I choose to call "the best years" of our life in the United States. It is an anthology in which I have tried to re-create and reflect American life in this period through short stories, excerpts from books (both novels and non-fiction), an occasional poem, newspaper pieces, newspaper columns, and magazine articles." #01021. very good: age wear/toning to boards and spine, toning and foxing to endpapers/edge of text block. SIGNED by author and inscribed: "For Sydney Chaplin--With all good wishes--Frank Brookhouse".

4to. 28 pp. A lengthy legal document signed "Charles Chaplin". It pertains to a lawsuit Chaplin filed against Vitagraph-Lubin-Selig-Essanay, Inc. and the Essanay Film Manufacturing Company concerning his movie A Burlesque of Carmen, which Chaplin had written, directed, and starred in for Essanay. Chaplin seems to have been unhappy with changes that Essanay made for a second version released after Chaplin had moved on to another film company, and he was suing to have it pulled from the market due to concern for how it could harm his reputation. He ultimately lost the suit. Chaplin signed on the second page, following a short affidavit concerning his contract with the movie makers and his idea of the film. His affidavit mentions Geraldine Farrar and Theda Bara, though neither was involved in the suit. A notary also signed. The remaining eight pages contain the unsigned statement of Essanay General Manager Walter W. Irwin. The document is in fine condition with filing holes and occasional losses to the edges. There is a similar, accompanying document signed by Sydney Chaplin, the elder half-brother of Charlie. The second document also has news clippings and programs attached to the legal sized sheets.
