'Very rare treatment of heraldry from a symbolic and mystical point of view, paralleling the alchemical interest and literature of the period. The work is a supplement to Morgan's 1661 work The Sphere of Gentry which is much more common'. The missing 2 lls, 2I4 and last lf, (both blanks?) seem to be wanting in most copies. Marginal damp stain on the fore-edge with associated mildew spotting throughout but paper sound. In contemporary blind ruled full calf with ?later calf respine, Worn and split. Ex lib Pauncefort Duncombe Brickhill Manor. This copy probably from the library sale by Sothebys March 1921. many copies presumed lost in the Great Fire of London. MOULE p176. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Rebound copy of original four books, with some missing components. The portrait of King Charles I noted in other copies is missing. A previous (early) bookseller noted "Imperfections", including missing "to Book 2nd, page 66 to 71, to Book the 3rd, page 8 to 11, page 68 to 71, page 74 to 77, page 80 to 85, and to Book the 4th, page 50 to 53" Covers are half leather with gilt title on spine, patterned paper on balance. Front hinge cracked but text block solid. Pages notably clean with some foxing, a few small tears including old repairs, and a few inky fingerprints.
