The book's history is connected to the House of Elzivir, a family-run 17th century Dutch bookseller whose publications remain highly collectable to this day. Daniel was the son of the family's most celebrated book printer, Bonaventura Elzivir (1583-1652). Daniel left the family business and set up his own publishing house in 1638 with his cousin Louis. It is during that time, and in collaboration with German publisher Abraham Wolfgang, when this volume was published.
