This book is an account of his role in the forlorn attempt to rescue the Imperial Russian family during the Bolsevik revolution of 1917. The book was first published in Vienna in 1928 and a German version was published in 1929. It is this version which has been traslated here "with an eye to the Russian text". The translator mentions that at the present time the author "is earning his living as a sleeping -car attendant on one of the transcontinental railways".
