Passato prima all'Università di Torino, divenne Assistente presso il Gabinetto di Fisica avendo nel frattempo conseguito la libera docenza in Ottica fisica e Spettroscopia. Nel 1908 fu nominato Professore di Fisica presso l'Università di Messina ed almeno dallo stesso anno diresse l'Istituto di Fisica Terrestre e Meteorologica della R. Università di Messina dal 1909 e fautore della sua ripresa iniziata a fatica nel 1911.
