Negligible fade on board periphery, 331 pp text crisp and unmarked. Unclipped dj in new mylar shows two half inch closed tears but is complete and displays well. Profusely illust in b/w throughout. A fine study of the structural development of the carriage from its obscure origins in the fourth millennium B.C.to its eclipse by the automobile in the first decade of this (last) century. World-embracing, both historically and geographically, and ranges from Sumeria through ancient Greece and Rome, Byzantium and China, to medieval Europe and the American Wild West. It is not only a story of technological progress but of human ingenuity and artistic expression.
