In 1954 Pauling would win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and later win a second Nobel Prize for his peace activism in 1962. This particular copy of the journal was originally owned by Raymond Thayer Birge, who taught physics at UC Berkeley and was responsible for bringing Robert Oppenheimer and Ernest Lawrence to teach at the university during the 1930s.
