Idea first appeared in Popular Science in 1919 as runway atop NYC skyscraper, revived in 1960s by Dutch scientist Henk Hesselink. Endless runway loops around terminal building to form a circle, allows 3 planes to takeoff and land at same time, uses 1/3 of commercial runway space, only 3.5km. Submitted by WW1 aviator who perished in 1935 Key West (FL) hurricane.
