Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Thus. First impression of the first edition thus - this edition has attractive black and white illustrations by Laurie Taylor. ***Very good in lemon yellow cloth-covered boards with dark red titles to the spine and dark red titles and illustration to the fr…ont board. Boards clean with just some fading to the colour in places. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also very good with no inscriptions. Pages clean. No foxing. ***In a very good colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 6s. net. Edges and corners of dustwrapper slightly rubbed and creased. The dustwrapper is complete, with just small areas of loss at the head of the spine and the top corner of the front panel. Head of spine of dustwrapper also slightly creased and rubbed. Sporadic foxing marks to the edges of dustwrapper. ***128 pages. 190mm x 130mm. ***'As long as there are roads and travellers, and the art of story telling flourishes, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales will continue to exert their spell. Chaucer is the most popular of poets - popular because he has never ceased to command the admiration of English readers: popular, too, because he was, above all else, a poet of the people. The present edition, by smoothing the path of the reader who has no Middle English, yet preserving the force and flavour of Chaucer's poetic idiom, sets out to introduce the Canterbury Tales to an even wider circle of admirers. It is a tribute to the poet's genius - the work of a student who has known him for almost half a century.' (Quote taken from the font flap of the dustwrapper) ***An uncommon post-war edition of Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales", in the original fragile dustwrapper. *** For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Laurie Taylor (illustrator).
