Terza edizione, seconda in italiano, dopo l'incunabolo del 1496 in latino e l'edizione lucchese del 1556 in italiano. Come però ben specifica il Moreni, II, 387, "A questa edizione vi è premessa la vita del Tegrimi scritta in Toscano dal dotto P.Alessandro Berti della Congregazione della Madre di Dio, e vi sono molte opportune note, le quali sono, giusta l'asserzione del D.Lami nelle "Nov. Lett. Fior." all'anno 1742, num. 36, del P. Domenico Mansi poi Arcivescovo di Lucca, il quale ha eziandio tutto il merito di questa elegante edizione". Legatura coeva in piena pergamena rigida. Tagli leggermente spruzzati. Un piccolo tunnel di tarlo al margine esterno bianco di una sessantina di carte, sempre vicino al bordo del foglio ed ininfluente. Nel complesso esemplare in buone condizioni di conservazione. Il testo vero e proprio, in questa edizione, è preceduto da una biografia in italiano dell'autore scritta da Alessandro Pompeo Berti. Segue poi una serie cronologica della vita di Castruccio, questa in latino ed infine, da una prefazione, sempre in latino, del Tegrimi. Questa edizione, rappresenta la più bella e completa vita del celeberrimo condottiero lucchese, Castruccio Castracani degli Antelminelli (Lucca, 29 marzo 1281 Lucca, 3 settembre 1328), scritta dall'intellettuale lucchese, Nicolao Tegrimo (1448 ca. - 1527). L'opera rappresenta la più importante biografia del grande condottiero lucchese Castruccio Castracani degli Antelminelli che fu fu duca di Lucca, signore di Carrara, Lerici, Pisa, Pistoia, Pontremoli e Sarzana e gonfaloniere del Sacro Romano Impero. Appartenente all'importante famiglia ghibellina, Castruccio fu costretto a fuggire da Lucca nel 1300 dopo essere stato cacciato dalla città dalla fazione dei Neri capeggiata da Bonturo Dati. Dopo aver vissuto in esilio a Pisa, si diresse quindi in Inghilterra dove prese parte a diversi tornei, vincendone vari e conoscendo anche Edoardo I d'Inghilterra. In seguito a causa di un omicidio d'onore dovette abbandonare la sua residenza per cercare riparo in Francia, su chiamata diretta di Filippo il Bello che cercava abili uomini d'arme. Filippo gli assegnò un comando in cavalleria e Castruccio si distinse nelle battaglie di Arras e nella difesa di Thérouanne nella Guerra di Fiandra. Nel 1314 si aggregò alle truppe ghibelline di Uguccione della Faggiuola che si muovevano verso l'Italia al seguito di Arrigo VII in Italia. Prese parte alla presa e al successivo sacco di Lucca dove da tempo governavano i Guelfi. Fu uno dei comandanti protagonisti della battaglia di Montecatini il 29 agosto del 1315. Uguccione che iniziò a vedere in lui non un alleato ma un rivale, lo fece imprigionare in attesa di ucciderlo ma una rivolta scoppiata a Lucca e Pisa fece scappare Uguccione. Castruccio venne liberato ed acclamato Capitano Generale prima e Console a vita poi, della città di Lucca. Combatté come comandante di una parte dell'esercito ghibellino nella battaglia di Montecatini (29 agosto 1315) in cui, con l'aiuto dei soldati dell'imperatore, risultò il principale artefice della vittoria sui fiorentini della Lega Guelfa. Gli storici Giovanni Villani, Scipione Ammirato, Niccolò Machiavelli ricordano i danni arrecati da Castruccio e dalle sue truppe al territorio fiorentino, fra cui Empoli. Caduto in disgrazia presso Uguccione, che lo intravide come concorrente per la signoria, fu da questi imprigionato in attesa di essere giustiziato. Tuttavia a seguito di una rivolta popolare a Lucca e Pisa, Uguccione dovette fuggire, Castruccio fu liberato ed acclamato Capitano Generale della città di Lucca, e poco dopo (12 giugno 1316) Console a vita. Dopo aver consolidato la sua signoria sulla città, Castruccio nel 1320, decise che era venuto il momento di espandere il suo potere ed iniziò le ostilità contro i fiorentini. Nel medesimo anno l'arciduca d'Austria Federico I d'Asburgo lo nominò vicario per Lucca, la Lunigiana e la Val di Nievole (in tale incarico, fu confermato, anche, nel 1324, dall'imperatore Ludovico il Bavaro). Seguirono anni di imprese e successi che lo portarono a estendere la sua influenza, su buona parte del territorio toscano. Morì per un'infezione malarica nel 1328, non dopo però di aver disseminato il territorio toscano e ligure ed in particolare, della Lunigiana di fortificazioni e castelli difensivi.
