Hardback - Original Cloth. Condition: Good. No publisher (Foreign Office?), no date (1926?), original cloth, gilt-lettered on the spine, 22 x 14 cm., 152 pages, neat previous owner's inscription in pencil (Peking, 1947) on the front paste-down, Peking bookseller's ticket on the rear paste-down, SPINE HEAVILY FADED with extensive partial fading to the front and rear covers, head and tail of the spine slightly frayed, corners slightly bumped, LACKING ONE LEAF (see details below), otherwise clean, sound and tight. NOTES: No copies in Library Hub Discover. Only one copy in WorldCat, in the University of Alberta, Canada. PUBLISHER AND DATE: There is an official code at the bottom of what appears to be the title-page. At a guess, this seems to indicate that it is a Foreign Office publication published in November 1926? TEXT: In two parts: Part I: Correspondence between H.M. Legation and the Wai Chiao Pu, etc.; Part II: Specimens of Chinese Official Documents. MISSING LEAF: The missing leaf is between the front free endpaper and what seems to be the title-page. In this copy, there is a stub where the leaf has been removed. I have been in touch with the University of Alberta who have the only copy listed in WorldCat. They have informed me that this leaf is missing from their copy, too. One can only speculate on the reason why this leaf is missing / removed from both copies - possibly something to do with it being an official publication intended for limited circulation? SIR ERIC TEICHMANN (1884-1944): British diplomat and orientalist. Author of Travels of a Consular Officer in North-West China (Cambridge University Press, 1921), Affairs of China: A Survey of the Recent History and Present Circumstances of the Republic of China (Methuen, 1938), and others. SIR HUMPHREY INGELRAM PRIDEAUX-BRUNE (1886-1979): Perhaps best known as the British Consul who reported extensively, in British diplomatic dispatches, on the Nanjing Massacre and post-massacre social conditions. Size: 22 x 14 cm.
