À l'été 1935, Simone Téry décida de partir pour l'Union Soviétique où jusque-là elle avait hésité à se rendre. « Mais le temps de prendre parti était venu…», écrivait-elle dans son autobiographie. Ce fut de Moscou — d'après sa biographie officielle — qu'elle envoya à l'Humanité son premier article, sur Henri Barbusse qui venait de mourir (mais sa signature n'apparaît pas alors dans l'Humanité). Elle adhéra alors au Parti communiste et lui restera fidèle jusqu'à sa mort ; dans ses pages autobiographiques, elle disait y avoir trouvé « la pureté, le mépris des choses vaines, l'abnégation, le courage, la chaleur de cœur, le courage ».

TRÈS RARE. (Col. Essais et Documents). Reportage en Grèce durant la g…uerre civile, publié par une des maisons d'édition du Parti Communiste Français - PCF. Dans son ouvrage "Les Kapetanios. La guerre civile grecque de 1943 à 1949" (Fayard 1970, page 461), Dominique Eudes écrit : "Au cours de l'année 1948, Simone Théry (sic), membre du Parti Communiste Français, avait ramené de la montagne des notes à la gloire de Markos. Son travail terminé, son héros s'était trouvé atteint de toutes les gales de l'idéologie et le livre à peine paru était passé au pilon de l'orthodoxie". Simone Téry (1897-1967) était une grande reporter et une romancière, auteure d'une quinzaine d'ouvrages. Fille de la célèbre journaliste de gauche Andrée Viollis et de Gustave Téry, directeur du journal "L'Oeuvre", licenciée en philosophie, reçue première à l'agrégation de lettres classiques en 1919, elle enseigna deux ans au lycée de Rabat puis s'orienta vers le journalisme. En 1920, son père l'envoie faire des reportages en Irlande puis, brouillée avec ce dernier pour des raisons politiques, elle devient reporter pour divers journaux, dont l'hebdomadaire du Front Populaire "Vendredi" et "L'Humanité". Elle reçoit une bourse Albert-Kahn qui lui permet de voyager autour du monde, particulièrement en Chine, au Japon et aux Etats-Unis. De 1930 à 1934, elle a une liaison avec Jean Giono. En 1934, en Espagne, elle est emprisonnée cinq jours par les Franquistes. L'année suivante, elle a une liaison avec l'écrivain Paul Nizan, qui inspirera son roman "Le Cur volé". En Allemagne, on lui refuse la publication d'un article, elle fait dès lors une grève de la faim, qui a pour conséquence un séjour en asile psychiatrique, qui inspirera sa pièce de théâtre "Dernière édition spéciale", représentée en 1937. Elle est présente en Espagne en 1937-1938 durant la Guerre civile, puis part en Union Soviétique et adhère au Parti Communiste. En 1938 ou 1939, elle épouse le poète et écrivain espagnol de gauche, Juan Chabás, et émigre avec lui en République dominicaine puis au Mexique. Après son divorce, elle revient en France et travaille à nouveau pour "L'Humanité". / Grèce.
