DS. 8.25" x 3", April 25th 1980, a petty-cash check from the Hometown Village Music Company, made out to Joe Tex for the amount of $17.04, boldly signed on verso: "Joe Tex". *Sid Prosen was owner of Hometown Village Music and the discoverer of Tom and Jerry (Simon & Garfunkel). In 1980 he began leasing material from other labels including the legendary Ace Records in Jackson, Mississippi, who had recorded Joe Tex in the late 1950's. Fine condition. African-American singer, musician and songwriter who gained great success in the 1960's and 1970's with his brand of Southern Soul, which mixed the styles of fink, country, gospel and R&B. He is best remembered for his ongoing feud with James Brown concerning writing credits, his ex-wife Bea Ford and an incident in a Macon, Georgia club involving guns.
