Die Akademie hat - obwohl der Termin zur Annahme auswärtiger Kunstwerke schon vorüber - dennoch die Fracht dieser schönen Sendung bezahlt. - Für den Ankauf des Schildes von Seiten des hiesigen Kunstvereins ist wenig Hoffnung; aber es ist die Rede davon, denselben für die hiesige Mengsische Gipssammlung zu acquiriren, wenn nicht die leidig[e]n Ereignisse in Leipzig, deren Untersuchung jetzt die Regierung dringend beschäftigt und alles Andere in den Hintergrund treten läßt, auch hier in der nächsten Zukunft ihre Folgen haben, was Gott verhüten wolle [.]". - Nach Aufenthalten in Dresden, München, Berlin und Weimar wurde Thäter 1846 Zeichenlehrer an der Dresdener Akademie und ging 1849 als Nachfolger seines Lehrers Samuel Amsler (1791-1849) als Professor an die Münchner Kupferstechschule; 1868 legte der "letzte bedeutende Vertreter der Kartonstecherei" (DBE) seine Professur zurück und wurde Konservator am dortigen Kupferstich- und Handzeichnungskabinett.
