At one time, Harrison Fishers Fisher Girl was as well-known as The Gibson Girl. Cosmopolitan Magazine in the 1920s called Harrison Fisher, The Worlds Greatest Artist saying that There is an underlying ideal that dominates his paintings. His ideal type has come to be regarded as the type of American beauty: girls, young with the youth of a new country, strong with the vitality of buoyant good health, fresh with clear-eyed brightness, athletic, cheerful, sympathetic, and beautiful. Theodore Brown Hapgood, Jr. (18711938) designed book covers, bookplates, posters, and a set of type ornaments, known as Hapgood florets. His cover designs were often based on floral and branch motifs, reminiscent of Renaissance woodcut borders seen on title pages and chapter headings.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. G. Patrick Nelson/Theodore B. Hapgood (illustrator). Second Reprint. Original pictorial paper boards have been kept clean and bright by glassine wrapper. The story begins in 1888 in Kentucky, the only state where a married woman could not make a will. First published in Cosmopolitan Magazine in 1898, it aroused so much interest that it was then included as the first chapter of Hall's book, Aunt Jane of Kentucky. The object of her attention was the English Common Law, which gave husbands the right to their wives' earnings and property. Please examine our photo, which shows the pristine cover, carefully. There is minor abrasion at the backstrip head and a 1910 inscription. Otherwise it appears to be as good as any ! Ads. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book.
