Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. ~Twentieth century rebind, ripple-grained light blue cloth to boards. Gilt lettering and ruling to spine. Spine slightly faded, minor marks to base of boards and spine where shelf label has been removed. Minor wear to corners. All edges speckled red. Replacement marbled endpapers and blank front and rear endpages. Presentation bookplate to inside front board, dated 1924, identifying the book as part of a bequest to the Library Association from Henry Richard Tedder (1850-1924), librarian of the Athenaeum Club. Library Association stamps to prelims and final page of text. Printed on laid paper. Minor staining to top of pp. 73-4. Various pages reinforced at inner hinge with scalloped tape. Hinges sound. Small 8vo (11 x 18cm). Alphonse Emmanuel Claeys de Thielt was a Belgian translator and collector of Pushkin; the dedication page reads 'A mes amis de Belgique. Souvenir affectueux.' The book itself, perhaps modelled after Antoine Caillot's 1809 'Voyage autour de ma bibliotheque', is a meditation on various classic works, from Homer to Descartes, with reflections on the current state of literature: it thus provides a vivid snapshot of an individual approach to the mid-19th century literary landscape. Very scarce: no records of this volume found on Copac or Worldcat. ~Robust packaging. 1st edn. Hardback. Size: 84pp.

Couverture rigide. Condition: Bon. Ed. originale. Bruxelles : J. Blanche, 1872. Edition originale.
