Octavo, 533pp. Publisher's steel gray cloth, title stamped on spine, map endpapers. Publisher's slipcase, shelf wear to boards, wear along top edge. Top edge gilt, with some rubbing and spotting. One of 750 numbered copies signed by Costain on the limitation page, this being number 136, issued by Doubleday & Company, Inc. of Garden City, New York, in 1952, preceding the first trade edition. The novel became one of Costain's best-known works and served as the basis for the 1954 Warner Brothers film directed by Victor Saville, and Paul Newman's motion picture debut. Signed.
