Lorenzo Thomas was born to Panamanian parents in the overlap between the personal and the political; his mother, a community organizer and activist taught Thomas the importance of sharing and celebrating diverse experiences. In 1960s New York, Thomas found home amongst the artists and writers of the Black Arts Movement, joining and contributing to the Umbra poetry workshop alongside the likes of Ishmael Reed and Tom Dent. His writing demonstrated his well-rounded interests and influences in African and African American culture. FRAMING THE SUNRISE was an ephemeral project following Thomas's release of his renowned poetry collection, FIT MUSIC. 1395089. Special Collections.
