Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners very slightly bruised, not price clipped (£13.99), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy. 200pp. Valerie Barton is charged with the task of being the Barton who must take the family from the 'last room' of the vestiges of slavery, into the 'mansions of the world'. Born into the third generation of African Jamaicans after the abolition of European slavery, she is entrusted with a life mission. Elean Roslyn Thomas (1947-2004), was a Jamaican poet, novelist, journalist and activist. She was active in the struggle for women's rights in the Caribbean and the movement for Jamaican national independence, as well as working in Latin America, Eastern and Western Europe and Africa. Sadly Elean died at the tragically young age of 56. This novel won the Ruth Hadden Memorial Award for best first novel published in Britain. Quite a scarce book.
