Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Thus. One of a lovely series of classic books for young readers illustrated by famous artists of the day, each with a colorful paper pastedown to the front board. The artist here is Louis Rhead, who contributed a full-color frontispiece & 33 full-page, pen-and-ink illustrations t…hroughout the 376 pages of text. This story, first published in 1857, is based on the author's own experiences, set at the Rugby School for boys in England in the 1830s; this is the first edition in this format with these illustrations (First, thus). Hardcover book has black matte cloth-covered boards with a colorful front paper pastedown. Condition is Very Good: generally very clean, sewn binding secure, hinges intact. Pages are tanned, but unmarked. Rubbing to extremities, with a heavily frayed area at base of spine creating a small hole in cloth. Corners slightly bumped. No DJ. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
