This book provides an early 20th-century insight into the combination of the bichromate-gum process of pigment-printing with the established process of photogravure or photo-aquatint. The book describes the author's own method, including the particular modication of photogravure that h…e practiced, and which he named 'photo-aquatint'. The author's method of photogravure was a way of preparing a copper etching plate to reproduce the artist's original in photogravure or aquatint. Photo-aquatint differed from photogravure in its use of a pigmented gelatin resist that was uniformly thick for all tones in the nal print. Photogravure, on the other hand, used a resist that was thin in the highlights and thick in the shadows, which created a continuous tone instead of a granulated one. The book includes an illustrative frontispiece, a supplement with a machine-printed photogravure, and a preface by the author that provides a detailed account of his process. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
